The Artists

Jess Shepherd

There was a very distinct moment when I realised that as a botanist what I was doing needed to be expressed visually as well as academically. In all of my artwork I try to explore how the viewer experiences and interprets scientific material that is represented visually in a beautiful way. My passion is to communicate the importance of plants to people, whilst questioning our current perceptions of botanical art, its applications and how it sits within the larger scope of the visual arts. I have a Masters in Botany from the University of Edinburgh, am a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London and a member of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society.
