I work in ceramics. My subject matter is the natural world, a traditional theme in world ceramics.
I have two areas of interest, natural forms and constructions, such as nests and organic forms.
Although my dishes and plates can be domestic objects for use in the home, they also conjure up vivid images and stories. The images on the dishes are of water and aquatic life as I am fascinated with what is partially obscured by reflection and fragmentation – as if looking into the sea.
I frequently add unconventional materials into the clay to produce varied textures. I work in stoneware; I like the richness of the colour that results from combinations of oxides fired at high temperature.
